Sydney Swans midfielder Oliver Florent has credited his career-best season so far with the increased opportunities he has been presented.
The 21-year-old has not allowed the interrupted 2020 season to halt his progress going from strength to strength within the Swans midfield.
Florent, who has now played 58 games, has averaged a career-best tally across disposals, clearances and contested possessions this season.
The speedy midfielder has shown he is also hard at the contest, averaging eight contested possessions in his 20.2 average for the season.
“I think there are a few factors one being that I think I am just backing myself more and more to improve on my weaknesses and also my strengths,” Florent said on Thursday.
“I am also playing a bit more in the midfield, which is nice, and something that I am getting more and more comfortable with.
“Obviously we have some senior players around the club that have helped me, and the coaches have been unreal in supporting me as well.”
The Swans are preparing to tackle Richmond this week, and although the Tigers will be missing some key players, Dustin Martin has again been one of the most dominant midfielders in the competition this season.
Florent is confident his side is ready for the challenge ahead on Sunday afternoon.
“We are really excited to get out there and play Richmond at the Gabba,” he said.
“They obviously have had some good wins and some losses this season.
“They are a great team with or without all of their good players, and it will just be 22 versus 22, and hopefully we can come out on top.”
