Gordon elevated to rookie list
Scholarship player Nathan Gordon has made it onto the Swans rookie list for 2010...
The Geoff Curran scholarship recipient signed a scholarship with the Sydney Swans in May 2009 after impressing recruiting staff at the NSW state trials in Coffs Harbour.
The scholarship allowed Nathan to join the Swans in a full-time capacity whereby he participated in all the weekly activities of a senior listed player.
Nathan impressed the senior coaches with his elite running capabilities in the pre-season but had to overcome injury and adjust to the demands of being a full-time professional athlete.
“It was definitely a steep learning curve for me and I took a while to adjust. I think my inconsistency earlier in the year reflected that,” Gordon said.
“Luckily, I overcame my injuries and was able to play some pretty good football towards the end of the season”
Stuart Maxfield, Manager - Player Personnel said Gordon's determination to become an elite footballer had impressed the Club's football staff.
"Nathan has impressed all with his commitment to training and strong performances in the Swans Reserves team throughout 2009.
"He is now developing into a hard running half-forward type - his elite athletic ability makes him a difficult player for opposition teams to match up on.
"The hard work has paid off for Nathan and he thoroughly deserves his elevation onto our rookie list."
Nathan’s aim is to improve on his 2009 pre-season and use the lessons he has learned throughout the year in order to make the most of his opportunity.
“I really want to have the best pre-season possible and potentially get a chance to play in the NAB Cup,” Nathan said.
“My overall aim is to be consistent in everything I do and reward the Swans for the faith and effort they have shown me,” he added.
