The Sydney Swans have enjoyed a successful 2012 season, with a number of key players contributing to the team’s 16 wins during the home and away season.

Such success is likely to result in a number of Swans players polling votes in tonight’s Brownlow Medal count, with midfielders Josh Kennedy and Kieren Jack likely to lead the way.

Ahead of tonight’s count, sydneyswans.com.au takes a closer look at which games Swans players should poll well in, and who the team’s best Brownlow chances are from the 2012 AFL season.

Josh Kennedy

In just his third season with the Swans, Josh Kennedy has furthered his position as Sydney’s leading inside midfielder.

Kennedy burst out of the blocks in 2012, producing outstanding performances in the first five rounds including picking up best-on-ground medals against GWS in round 1, Port Adelaide in round 3 and Hawthorn in round 5.

The All-Australian midfielder averaged almost 29 disposals in the team’s first five games, including a 36 disposal, one goal performance against Fremantle in round two.

While Kennedy’s sensational early season input lessened slightly through the middle of the season, the 24-year-old finished the season as strongly as he began with two quality performances against the competition’s top sides, Collingwood in round 20 and Hawthorn in round 22.

In round 20, Kennedy collected a career-high 40 disposals, one goal and eight tackles to be named as the Swans best in the team’s eight-point loss to the Pies.

Kennedy was then at it again against his former side Hawthorn in round 22, when the midfielder notched up 35 disposals, one goal and six tackles in the team’s narrow loss.

Statistically, Kennedy has also led the way both for the club and the league this season, collecting more contested possessions and clearances than any other player in the AFL in 2012.

Following his impressive 2012 season, it is all but guaranteed that Kennedy will build on his three career Brownlow votes in this year’s count.

Kennedy’s season in stats:
22 games, 24 goals, 267 kicks, 61 marks, 350 handballs, 109 tackles, 185 clearances, 408 contested possessions, 85 inside 50s, 35 rebound 50s, 166 hard-ball gets, 97 loose-ball gets.

R20 vs Collingwood - 40 disposals, 1 goal, 8 tackles
R22 vs Hawthorn - 35 disposals, 1 goal, 6 tackles.

Kieren Jack

As the 2012 season progressed, Kieren Jack shaped up as one of the Swans most consistent players.

Jack’s formed peaked mid-season, with the 25-year-old averaging just under 28 possessions between rounds 8-14.

The fleet-footed midfielder has also had plenty of impact on the scoreboard this year, and has kicked multiple goals on nine occasions this season.

Jack’s performance in round eight against Melbourne at the SCG was particularly impressive, with the midfielder collecting 33 touches and kicking three goals.

Statistically, Jack has also had a terrific season, with the Swans’ number 15 leading the competition in goal assists with 26 for the year.

Jack’s impressive season was capped off with selection in the All-Australian 40-man squad, but missed out on the final cut.

Jack’s season in stats:
22 games, 25 goals, 323 kicks, 59 marks, 218 handballs, 120 tackles, 123 inside 50s, 108 hard-ball gets, 98 loose-ball gets.

R16 vs West Coast - 39 disposals, 11 tackles

Ryan O’Keefe

In his 13th season with the Swans, midfielder Ryan O’Keefe has shown no signs of slowing down.

While O’Keefe missed the season opener with a knee injury, the 31-year-old played every other game this season and was one of the Swans’ most impressive performers in 2012.

The Swans veteran, who has collected 60 Brownlow votes in his career, is likely to add to that number following a number of high-possession games and multiple goal hauls.

O’Keefe was at his absolute best against West Coast at Patersons Stadium in round 16, with the midfielder collecting 39 disposal, nine tackles and was named best on ground.

In the Swans second last match of the home and away season, O’Keefe was dominant again, notching up 30 disposals and kicking two important goals against Hawthorn at the SCG in round 22.

O’Keefe also finished the 2012 season as the Swans leading tackler, with 122 for the season, which ranked him 7th in the league.

O’Keefe’s season in stats:
21 games, 19 goals, 268 kicks, 60 marks, 233 handballs, 122 tackles, 70 inside 50s, 47 rebound 50s, 93 hard-ball gets, 78 loose-ball gets.
