Trent Dennis-Lane will not forget the night he was presented with his first Swans guernsey.

It had been a long wait for Dennis-Lane, who had been overlooked in four drafts before getting his opportunity at AFL level with the Swans.

When it came time to receive his number eight at the Swans Guernsey Presentation night, it was a Swans legend who was there to shake his hand.

“My jumper was presented to me by Paul Kelly, one of the Swans legends and it was a great honour,” Dennis-Lane said.

“You get up on stage with one of the Club greats, you get to shake their hand and then you look out and there are hundreds of people clapping, so it makes it feel really special.”

This year for the first time, the annual Guernsey Presentation Dinner will include the latest inductions into the Swans Hall of Fame.

After two memorable Hall of Fame events, first in Melbourne and then Sydney last year, the Hall of Fame will now be a permanent part of the annual Guernsey Presentation.

Last year, all players attended the Swans Hall of Fame function, where Peter Bedford was elevated to the status of Bloods legend, and Chairman Richard Colless announced the inaugural items for the Swans Heritage list.

“I think it’s important for every player to know about the history of the Club,” Dennis-Lane said. “That was really a highlight for me last year, when we had the Hall of Fame dinner and learned about the former greats of our Club.”

Though it will be the third guernsey Dennis-Lane has officially received as a Swans player, he believes the occasions loses none of its significance over time.

“I think you look at the guys coming through now and remember how excited you were when you received your first guernsey. You see their wide eyes and you feel really happy for them.”

The Sydney Swans Guernsey Presentation and Hall of Fame Dinner, presented by Volkswagen will be held on Monday, March 12 at the Grand Ballroom, Westin Sydney.
