Sydney Swans co-captain Leo Barry has today emphatically denied reports in this morning’s media that he had claimed methamphetamine, or ice, had become a major drug problem within AFL playing ranks.
“That is outrageous and totally untrue,” Barry said.
“I was asked a specific question about ‘ice’ in an interview and replied to the effect that I believed you would be naïve not to think that some players haven’t at least experimented with the drug.
“In saying that, I was not talking from any anecdotal evidence, but more about the epidemic in society that we have read about in the media in recent times.
“When you consider there are 700 odd players in the AFL the numbers would suggest that somewhere along the line someone would have taken ‘ice’.
“For someone to intimate that I claimed the use of the drug was rife in AFL is absolutely ludicrous.”
