Swans’ midfielder Jude Bolton collected a career-high 41 possessions in this afternoon’s 92-point win over the Western Bulldogs at the SCG.
In wet conditions, the 32-year-old kicked the team’s first goal and notched up 14 possessions in the first term, which saw the Swans outscore the Dogs nine straight goals to one.
Speaking after the match Bolton said his focus was to keep to basics in the tough on-field conditions.
“I grew up in Ballarat and it’s pretty wet down there,” he said
“It’s pretty basic sort of footy in the wet and you just go after it and I suppose all the guys wanted to play trademark footy (and for me) that meant going after it and keeping it pretty simple.”
Bolton said the team were keen to make amends for last weekend’s performance against St Kilda in Melbourne.
He said the he was particularly disappointed in his own efforts, and was pleased to be able to bounce back this weekend against the Dogs.
“We were really disappointed with the way we probably let St Kilda get after the footy last week and we were extremely undisciplined and loose around the stoppages, so it was better (tonight) from the guys in terms of working of the body tonight,” he said.
“Just watching the tape (of last week’s match) was really disappointing from the leaders around the stoppages, and certainly from (me) it was pretty undisciplined.
“We were just really disappointed with our talk and our voice, so we just wanted to make a statement, because if we’re doing the right things then generally the young guys will jump on board as well.”
Another stand-out for the Swans this afternoon was Rhyce Shaw, who finished the game with 30 disposals, including two score assists and six inside 50s.
Shaw told SwansTV he was pleased with what was his best statistical game this season.
“It’s about time I got a kick, I haven’t had one all year,” he joked.
“I just tried to get some run and get myself going and hopefully help the side and it just opened up that way and I’m pretty happy.”

Shaw said today’s win was vital for the Swans, who now sit fifth on the AFL ladder, with the league’s highest percentage.
“It was really important,” he said.
“We really wanted to win this one, but to play the way we did and get a win like that just shows our capabilities, and we’ve got to bring that every week to be a top-four side, which we aspire to be.
Swans’ midfielder Dan Hannebery also produced a season-best performance, collecting 35 possessions.
Speaking to SwansTV after the match, Hannebery said the team was pleased to come away with a consistent four-quarter effort.
“We wanted to make sure we put in a four-quarter effort and we think we did that today,” he said.
“We were pleased. We knew they were the number one contested ball team in the last four or five weeks, so we knew we had to try and match it with them.
“Our effort and our four-quarter work rate came through tonight.”

Hannebery said the celebrations would not last long for the Swans, who will take on an in-form Essendon side next week in Melbourne.
“Straight after the game our mindset goes to Essendon next week, which will be a huge game for us and for our season.”
