Lewis Roberts-Thomson is on the mend following his collision in Perth on the weekend...
Swans utility Lewis Roberts-Thomson is recovering well from a heavy clash suffered in the second quarter of Sunday afternoon’s 52-point win over the Eagles in Perth.
Roberts-Thomson was removed from the ground after the collision with West Coast’s Jacob Brennan and was taken to hospital for monitoring, before being given the all-clear to travel home with the team.
Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron told SwansTV that Roberts-Thomson is making good progress following his bout of concussion.
“He’s recovered pretty well,” he said. “He’s quite bright today and is looking pretty good.”
“We’ll just see how he recovers over the rest of the week and he’ll start doing some exercise and will hopefully be training by Friday.
“We’ll make a decision based on what symptoms he may or may not have later in the week.”
In other injury news, Swans reserves forward duo Matt Spangher and Mitch Morton are nearing full fitness following their respective injuries.
Cameron said Spangher, who missed the reserves last match with a hamstring complaint, will train this week.
“(Spangher) had some hamstring pain related to his back two weeks ago right at the end of the game,” Cameron said.
“He has since resumed training and if he can get through the training we’ve got planned this week then he’ll play this weekend.”
Cameron added that the outlook on Morton’s quad injury is also looking bright.
“He’s had a quad strain and his rehab has been going well,” he said.
“He’s sprinted and, a bit like Matt, will start training this week and is kicking on already and is looking good to play as well.”
Young Swan Jordan Lockyer faces more time on the sidelines after suffering recurrent hamstring strains.
Cameron said the club will not be rushing the teenager’s recovery.
“Unfortunately he went from one side to the other with his hamstring strains and he’s just working on his overall fitness and strength issues and some of the things we think have contributed to him injuring both sides,” Cameron said.
“We’ll be working on that and a decision as to when he plays will be made in the coming weeks.
“We’re not rushing him back and he’s not playing this week and he’s due to start training next week, so we’ll see how he goes from there.”
