The Sydney Swans are pleased to announce Adam Goodes will be a co-captain of the Club, joining Brett Kirk and Craig Bolton at the helm for season 2009.
The dual Brownlow medallist replaces Leo Barry, who relinquished the captaincy at the end of last season.
“One of the main goals for players as they move on in their careers is to lead at their Club,” Roos said.
“Adam Goodes has been in the Leadership Group and gained the respect of his peers, and he deserves the honour of captaining the Club alongside Craig Bolton and Brett Kirk.
“He narrowly missed out last year when Craig took over from Barry Hall. Now Goodesy has this opportunity and is a very suitable and worthy replacement for Leo Barry, who did a terrific job for the footy club.
“We are very confident Adam will carry on in the fine tradition of some of the past great captains, and will ultimately leave his own legacy at the Football Club.”
Goodes has been a long-standing member of the Leadership Group (since 2004) and takes on this next role with much pride.
“It is a great honour and responsibility to be named a captain of the Sydney Swans,” said Goodes.
“It is something I have always wanted to achieve since being in the Leadership Group.
“We have had fantastic leaders in the past and present, and to be amongst this group is just a great honour.
“It is also great to be one of three, to have the experience of Craig and Brett alongside me, and past captains Leo (Barry) and Barry (Hall) still around to help develop my leadership qualities.”
