Trent Dennis-Lane might have been the Swans' last pick in the national draft this year but he returned to Perth for the Christmas break confident he can make a mark at the Club.

The coaching staff were impressed with Dennis-Lane's performance on the training track and during a limited-contact practice match where he scored three quick goals.

The first was a kick off the ground but his next two goals came from strong overhead marks and set shots. While he is agile and quick at ground level, Dennis-Lane, 21, showed he is also competent in the air.

Taken at pick 55 in the draft, he came to the Club from Subiaco with a reputation as a goal-kicker, renowned as a crumbing forward who also has the ability to play a lead-up role in attack.

Coach Paul Roos is pleased with what he has seen since Dennis-Lane arrived in Sydney in late November.

"It was good, we saw on the tapes what he can do and the biggest thing is whether he can transfer that to AFL level," Roos said.

"He has certainly got a lot of talent, he kicked sixty odd goals in the WAFL (West Australian Football League).

"He has got clean hands, he kicks goals and it's probably something we haven't had - a really dynamic, creative forward, so if he works hard enough there is certainly a spot for him," Roos said.

Dennis-Lane trained with the Fremantle Dockers before the national draft and believes that has helped him settle in quickly at the Swans.

"I haven't felt behind. I did some pre-season back in WA with the Dockers so that has helped out heaps and I've been able to join in with some of the drills, while some of the other draftees had to do pure running. That would have done my head in!" he said.

He was looking forward to going back to Perth to see his girlfriend and his family, and then returning ready to hit the track again.

"It has been pretty solid since I arrived in Sydney and I've been missing home a little bit so it will be good to get home and freshen up over Christmas and come back and get stuck into it."
