I WOULD really hate to tarnish my report this week by sounding somewhat like an infomercial, but I thought I’d bring to people’s attention a quality show on SBS.
Now before your mind wanders, “Ted, this is not the time or the place to be talking about those soft porn movies”, settle down, a tittie movie it ain’t. And don’t worry, I’m not talking about that German dog Rex that saves the day and somehow year after year holds its prime timeslot. This is an Australian show with no crime-solving dog.
I’m talking about Cup Fever with Santo, Sam and Ed, which features on SBS each night at 10pm whilst the World Cup is on.
The format is a simple football ‘panel style’ show that calls upon a guest each night and discusses current issues in the World Cup world. This structure is far from an original concept and has a budget of what looks to be less than $100 per episode, yet despite this, the show is absolutely hilarious.
If you are not a massive soccer fan then don’t feel you won’t understand the show. It is not a football show that goes deep into discussions of tactics or lack thereof (they leave that to the silver fox Craig Foster at 10:30pm for his nightly torrent about Australia’s performance against Germany). The show is a rather light hearted look at the World Cup from a different perspective. It highlights the egos, the dives, the celebrations and features segments like “Take on my nuts” (It is what you’re thinking!).
For those who have seen the show before then I’m preaching to the converted. For those who haven’t seen the show then I highly recommend it.
