Nick Malceski and Andrejs Everitt have been recalled to the Sydney Swans’ side for Saturday night’s clash with Essendon at Etihad Stadium.

The pair will replace midfielder Luke Parker, who has been sidelined with a broken collarbone, and Ben McGlynn, who will miss Saturday’s clash due to suspension.

Swans’ coach John Longmire said the duo’s experience played a major role in their selection this week.

“Both players have played a lot of senior footy and we think they’ll be really beneficial to us against a team that has some really good outside run and good ball users,” he said.

“We just think that going into this match, the Bombers are up and about at Etihad Stadium, so we’ll need a fair bit of flexibility and players that can run and carry and give us some different looks in terms of our ball use.

“We think that these two players can give us that.”

After being omitted from the side last week, Longmire said Malceski was able to regain his best form in the Swans’ reserves against the Gold Coast reserves last weekend.

“(His form) was certainly an improvement and he was a bit better last week, which is what we wanted,” Longmire said.

“He’s got a great skill set at his best and that’s what we’re after.

“He’s fantastic as far as his voice and his run and carry and we know he can play a number of different roles whether that’s forward, back or mid and he gives us some real flexibility.”

The Swans will also continue to play both Shane Mumford and Mike Pyke in this weekend’s match.

Longmire said Mumford, who returned to the side last weekend after being sidelined with injury for six weeks, will again alternate between the ruck and the forward line.

“Mumford will get another game under his belt and continue to build on what he did last week,” he said.

“He’ll play some time in the ruck and some time forward again, like he did last week.”

The coach praised the performance of Pyke in last week’s 92-point win over the Bulldogs, but warned that he had a challenge on his hands against the Bombers rucking pair.

“We come up against two quality ruckman in Tom Bellchambers and Paddy Ryder who are really important players for Essendon,” he said.

“Pykey did a good job for us last week but needs to back it up again for us as well.”
