The Other Half – September fevers
Hayley says the air is warmer, the grass greener and it’s finals time!
Even though my eyes are literally hanging from tiny tendons I have a love/loss relationship with September.
I love it because September means finals football. The grass smells different, the air is warmer and there is a new ‘spring’ in people’s step.
September + AFL football = awesomeness! (Not quite Pythagoras’ theorem but an important equation none-the-less.)
The loss part of my relationship with September means the football season is nearly over and if your team hasn’t made the cut to participate in the finals it’s an even bigger gaping hole.
There is only limited footy viewing on the TV, which means not too far away is a whole dry pitch full of cricket. With the exception of a backyard family game and my gorgeous family member James McNeil and his amazing batting and spin bowling I’m not keen on cricket (I’m slowly coming around to the 20/20 competition).
This dislike comes from many years of my sister and I (we are the only granddaughters) being ignored by my Grandfather on Boxing Day and for the five days following. But that’s for a whole separate therapy session with Dr Phil.
Anyhow… enough about that because we ended the regular season in fifth place and we have an elimination final to play! That has to be a pretty fantastic dose of confidence for everyone, seeing as how most punters had us missing September action altogether.
History shows we know how to play finals football, which means Sunday’s do or die clash with Carlton is set to be a game NOT to miss.

While Bruce was talking in terms of fighting, I am borrowing his philosophy this week for footy. I think it fits just right for what lies ahead if the Swans are to make it to that coveted last day in September. What do you think?
