The Sydney Swans have opted to take a ‘conservative approach’ with Isaac Heeney after the young gun underwent an arthroscope on his knee.

Heeney will return to full training towards the end of January after recovering from the procedure.

Head of Football Tom Harley said it was important to get Heeney full fit for the start of the home and away season.

“At this time of year it is fair to say we have taken a conservative approach with Isaac,” Harley told SEN Radio.

“One of those look and see type arthroscopes to get a better examination rather than any sort of scan.

“It is nothing major with Isaac and he was in fantastic condition and we are confident he will be back up and running towards the end of January.”

Harley said it was important to note Heeney missed the first four games of the 2017 season.

“That will give him a couple of months before the start of the season which is stark contrast to last year when he was struck down by glandular fever on the eve of the season,” Harley said.

“It is a minor setback but I am sure he will be fine.”
