Midfielder Tom Mitchell says his team is well aware of the need to shut down excitement machine Eddie Betts in Saturday night’s semi final against Adelaide at the SCG.
Betts has booted 72 goals this season including a six-goal haul in the elimination final against North Melbourne last weekend.
The small forward has averaged 1.4 goals per game against the Sydney Swans with defender Nick Smith having previously played the role of quelling the influence of Betts.
“He (Eddie Betts) is great to watch,” Mitchell told Big Sports Breakfast.
“I watched a little bit of the game against North Melbourne on the weekend and some of the stuff he is able to do is pretty special.
“We are going to have our work cut out for us as a team to try and stop him.”
The Crows are the most attacking team in the competition this season with a forward line boasting Taylor Walker, Tom Lynch, Josh Jenkins and Betts.
It will be a key objective of the Swans midfield early in the match to restrict the supply to the Crows forward line to limit their scoring.
But Mitchell said his side is ready.
“They are probably the best attacking team in the competition and can score pretty heavily,” Mitchell said.
“They have a really potent forward line with Tex Walker and Eddie Betts up there who have been in great form.
“I am sure as we will look at them throughout the week, as they’re some of the guys we will be looking to try and nullify.”
