Four new faces will don the red and white for the Swans opening round match against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night.
As announced earlier in the week 2020 draftees Logan McDonald, Braeden Campbell and Errol Gulden will all make their debuts and play their first AFL games.
Ruckman Tom Hickey, who joined the club in the 2020 Trade Period will also play his first game for the club after previously registering 102 AFL games with West Coast, Gold Coast and St.Kilda.
“It’s great to have the three boys we drafted into the team for Round 1 alongside Tom, who brings plenty of experience,” Sydney Swans coach John Longmire said.
“They all give us depth and they give us quality, they have all been fantastic.”
The match is also Tom Papley and George Hewett’s 100th AFL games, the pair will play their milestone game together after also playing their first AFL games together in Round 1, 2016 and John Longmire expects their competitive edge to shine.
“You just remember back to when we drafted both of them, to see them come through and play 100 games together is just brilliant, both of them are really great competitors.”
Hewett returns to the side after missing the majority of last season with a back injury alongside duo Dane Rampe and Isaac Heeney who also had season ending injuries in 2020.
“To have the experience and quality of Isaac, Dane and George, who missed a lot of footy last year, back is fantastic and helps the younger players, so we look forward to them all playing their roles.”
The match kicks off at the Gabba at 7.45pm AEDT (6.45pm local) and will be broadcast on Fox Footy, Channel 7 and Kayo Sports.
