The Sydney Swans will join all 18 clubs from across the competition in Melbourne on Monday as talks get underway for the 2019 AFL Trade Period.
Head of Football Charlie Gardiner will join General Manager - Recruiting and List Strategy Kinnear Beatson and the club's wider list management team to begin discussions with clubs right across the competition.
The AFL's official free agency period will officially commence on Friday October 4 with players who are yet to sign with their clubs and eglible under the free agency criteria to take offers from other clubs.
Under the rules that were agreed between the AFL and AFL Players Association (AFLPA), restricted and unrestricted free agents may consider offers from rival clubs during the post-season period, following the 2019 Toyota AFL Premiership Season. An offer to a player only includes capped salary and capped ASA (Additional Service Agreements) amounts.
Under the AFL Player Rules, an unrestricted free agent may automatically move to the club of his choice. An offer to a restricted free agent may be matched by his club, which has right of first refusal over his services. If the restricted free agent player does not wish to remain with his original club, he must enter the draft or seek a trade.
Compensation in the form of AFL allocated draft picks will apply to clubs with a net loss of free agents, based on the formula determined by the AFL.
The Telstra AFL trade period will begin on Monday 7th of October at 9am with all clubs set to meeting at Marvel Stadium to launch the start of the player exchange period.
All clubs will lock in for meetings on the opening day with the period to run through until at 7.30pm on Wednesday 16th of October.
Sydneyswans.com.au will provide fans with all the latest during the trade period.
