The Sydney Swans face the Geelong Cats at the SCG on Saturday night (May 1, 2021).
Ahead of Round 7, Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services Damian Raper provides the latest on the injury front, providing updates on George Hewett, Nick Blakey, Sam Reid, Tom McCartin, Dane Rampe, Robbie Fox, Tom Hickey and Sam Naismith.
Round Six Recap
We had a couple of unfortunate injuries in the game against the Gold Coast Suns.
George Hewett had a concussion, sustained in the first quarter so we had to use our medical sub. He is going to go through the mandatory 12 day AFL protocol so he will miss our game against Geelong this week.
We also had Nick Blakey who sustained a pretty significant cork. Nick did well to work through that in the second and third quarter but was too sore coming into the fourth quarter so he spent the fourth on the bench. He will be a test for our game this weekend.
Sam Reid sustained a right calf strain late in the fourth quarter and we think he will miss the next 2-3 games.
Tom McCartin
Unfortunately Tom had a tight hamstring in training last week so we made the decision to take no risk with him and he didn’t play on the weekend. He is going to be a test for this week.
Dane Rampe
Dane Rampe is going well, he sees the surgeon next week and we are still expecting him to be 1-2 weeks away as per our surgeon’s protocols.
Robbie Fox
Robbie is now 8 weeks since his finger operation. He sees the surgeon this week and is hoping to get a sense of when he can be available off the back of that appointment.
Tom Hickey
Tom Hickey is going well. He has started to do some running, is doing some leg work in the gym and working on his quad strength and is progressing along really well.
Sam Naismith
Sam Naismith is currently in his fourth week of full training and is seeing some match loads in training so is working on his skill and game output. We are hoping he is going to return to play in a couple of weeks.
