Sydney Swans coach John Longmire is confident the club’s young players will be better for the experience gained throughout the 2015 finals series.
A number of young Swans were forced to stand up during the finals series as the side lost key midfielders Luke Parker and Kieren Jack alongside key forwards Lance Franklin and Sam Reid.
James Rose, Dean Towers, Isaac Heeney and Tom Mitchell were just a few of the names to stand up in the absence of the stars on the sidelines.
“We had a forward line full of young kids,” Longmire said after Saturday night’s loss to North Melbourne.
“I looked out tonight at one stage and we had James Rose, Isaac Heeney, Dean Towers and Tom Mitchell all in our front half.
“It shows that we had some really young kids today who will be better for that experience and are good young players but they got a little bit overwhelmed at times.”
Longmire pointed to the Swans midfield stars in Josh Kennedy, Dan Hannebery and Luke Parker being the drivers for future success.
“We have some good kids coming through,” he said.
“Some of our best players are Kennedy (27 years old), Hannebery (24 years old) and Parker (22 years old) so I think we will aim to be competitive.”
