TWO GOALS in the shadows of three-quarter time handed Brisbane the momentum it needed to get home 14.19 (103) to 12.9 (81) against Sydney at the Gabba on Saturday night.
The Lions looked like running away with the game early, dominating the first term and taking a 28-point lead into the first break, but the Swans turned the tables quickly in the second half with a six goal surge and were just two points behind at half-time.
Heavy rain fell through the third quarter and changed the game style of both sides as marks were dropped and the ball moved forward in any way possible.
Brisbane did most of the attacking for the term but had kicked just 2.7 compared to Sydney's 3.0 as the siren neared.
However, late goals to Charlie Cameron and Eric Hipwood hurt the Swans and gave the home side a handy 15-point advantage and momentum going into the final quarter.
Swans skipper Josh Kennedy did all he could to lift his side, but with the Lions dominating inside 50s, there just wasn't enough opportunities for Sydney to kick a winning score, although Tom Papley did his best with four goals whilst the returning Will Hayward kicked two.
