Lucy McEvoy is the first to admit that moving anywhere interstate brought upon plenty of nerves and excitement, but her admiration for the Sydney Swans AFLW program, her new team-mates, and the club, has her well and truly immersed in the red and white.
Arriving at the club as one of two marquee signings alongside Chloe Molloy, the 22-year-old has quickly become respected amongst her peers for her leadership qualities and hard-work ethic.
Driven by a desire to succeed and helping nuture a young and exciting playing group, McEvoy reflected on the instant impact of the club even through her discussions with coach Scott Gowans.
"My manager asked if there were any clubs in particular that I wanted to have a chat with," McEvoy said on Credit to the Girls Podcast.
"I was like 'I used to play under Scott (Gowans) at Vic Country and always enjoyed my time under him there. I wouldn't mind having a chat with Scott and see what the Swans were about.
"It was a great chat but I would say nothing major came out of it.
"A week or two went by, and they wanted me to come have a look at the facilities. We had really progressive chats once I was up here, and I absolutely loved having a look around and was lucky enough to meet some of the players.
"Then very quickly after that I thought it was best for me to make the move."
While McEvoy highlighted her relationship with Scott as a key driver in her move, the impact on her conversation with Harley was profound.
Since her arrival, the versatile defender has been in awe of Harley's impact on the playing group and wider program.
"I had a conversation with Tom Harley, and he is incredible. He comes down to training, and offers his knowledge as a two-time premiership winning captain.
"To have him at training and have him impart his knowledge on us is huge and the way the program is run - they have a plan and we know what we're signing up for.
"(When I was signing) it was something I could really get on board with and could see myself fitting in really well. It was a big part of the reason as to why I moved."
