The Sydney Swans VFL side suffered a 27-point defeat to the top of the table Box Hill Hawks on Sunday, April 28 in Round Five of the action.
In a tightly contested affair, the red and white saw experienced midfielder Luke Parker return to the action for the first time this season and dominated at VFL level in his return from a broken arm.
Parker finished with a game high 34 disposals, six tackles and five clearances but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory as Box Hill surged in the final quarter to secure a 15.12.102 to 11.9.75 victory.
The veteran midfielder has not played at AFL level this season after injuring his arm during a pre-season game but will be available for selection for the upcoming Sydney Derby clash at the SCG on Saturday.
Sydney held a lead at the quarter time and half time breaks, taking a 14-point lead after the first two terms with goals to Corey Warner, Peter Ladhams, Jacob Konstanty, Jack Buller and VFL listed Ben Edwards, James Lugsdinn and Phil Moi Moi all hitting the scoreboard.
The third quarter saw a string of goals late to the home side, before they held off the Swans final quarter efforts to secure the win.
Angus Sheldrick was busy for the Swans, finishing with 22 touches, a game high 10 tackles and four clearances, while Caiden Cleary (20 disposals) and Will Edwards (17) also got plenty of the ball.
Versatile tall Aaron Francis also had a good day, taking nine marks to go with 22 disposals and a goal.
Ruckman Peter Ladhams also hit the scoreboard, kicking a goal to go with his 16 disposals, 19 hit outs and seven clearances.
The Swans will now prepare to face the GWS Giants in a curtain closer at the SCG on Saturday, May 4 from 5:15pm.
