The AFLW season is around the corner, and already the Sydney Swans are enjoying a win off the field with Sarah Grunden and Lara Hausegger inking contract extensions.
Hausegger will remain in the red and white until the end of 2026, while Grunden has extended until the end of 2025.
A second-round selection in the 2023 draft, 18-year-old Hausegger is a medium defender who arrived at the Sydney Swans with three games of VFLW experience at Collingwood and having captained the Oakleigh Chargers to the 2023 premiership.
AFLW senior coach Scott Gowans praised Hausegger’s work ethic since arriving at the Swans.
“Lara has gone from strength to strength in her defensive work, she’s composed down back and is able to assist us in ball movement as well,” said Gowans.
“She has an insatiable appetite to learn, and she comes into the club determined to improve every day, which fits right into our culture.
“Lara isn’t after the instant gratification of a premiership, she’s after sustained success, which is the sort of player we want to keep at this club.”
Grunden joined the Swans at pick 16 in the 2023 draft from the Calder Cannons Football Club.
The medium forward has impressed since joining the red and white, with senior coach Gowans forecasting a bright future for the 19-year-old.
“Grunden is highly skilled and shown she can play up the ground or down forward,” said Gowans.
“Her footy IQ is impressive and with a couple more footy seasons under her belt she could become a very special player.”
