Sydney Swans midfielder Luke Parker has called on the clubs younger players to set standards that will drive success.
Rhyce Shaw and Adam Goodes played their final game for the club on Saturday night after announcing their retirement.
Parker said he was confident his younger teammates would be able to fill the holes left by the departure of the veteran pair.
“We are going to miss Goodsey and Shawry massively,” Parker said.
“The thing is the next group of players coming through such as myself, Harry Cunningham, Sam Reid, Tom Mitchell and Dan Hannebery are the guys that are going to have to stand up from now on to drive the group to be successful.
“The club has to move on and find ways to become successful again.”
Parker is just one of a number of promising Swans under the age of 25 including Zak Jones, Isaac Heeney, Sam Reid and Dan Hannebery.
The Bob Skilton Medallist has no doubt the club is heading in the right direction.
“We want to push next year and we have a lot of young guys coming through who have shown a lot this year.”
“Next year we will improve again so hopefully we can keep driving the group.
“The good thing now is we have a young group who will hopefully stay together for five to ten years so that helps build that real strong bond.”
