Premiership ruckman Dean Cox is excited about the prospect of working with some of the best midfielders in the competition when the Swans players recommence training over the next fortnight.
The Sydney Swans new look coaching staff began this week with Cox joining Steve Johnson, Rhyce Shaw and Brett Kirk as the assistant coaches alongside John Longmire this season.
Cox has spent the last 18 years at the West Coast Eagles firstly as a player and then assistant coach and will now work with Brett Kirk in charge of the Swans midfield.
Already boasting names such as Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dan Hannebery the newly appointed assistant coach has already spoken with excitement about continuing to develop some younger players to move through that area of the ground.
“Another part of the exciting position to be in is to move over to an environment where they have some really experienced and quality midfielders,” Cox said.
“Hopefully we also get the likes of Heeney and some of these other young kids that we want to develop and get some time into.
“It will be great to pick their brains about the way they operate and also pass on some things about what I have learnt as a coach as well.”
Cox joined the Swans following the departure of senior assistant coach Stuart Dew who became the Gold Coast Suns senior coach.
“After spending 18 years at West Coast to see a new football club really excited me,” he said.
“To get to another organisation and meet new people and to find out how this organisation works was something that really appealed to me and made the move a lot easier.
“When the decision was made with the family to move we just thought it was a really good fit.”
“"I've always held the Swans in extremely high regard, as a professional organisation, the success they've been able to achieve and the culture and standards they've been able to set."
