Despite winning the Rising Star award in his remarkable debut season Callum Mills is not resting on his laurels heading into 2017.
Mills had a standout season after being recruited from the QBE Sydney Swans Academy, playing 22 matches with an average of 18 disposals across half back.
The 19-year-old’s courage shone through during the 2016 season as he constantly put his body on the line in tough contests.
Mills says he understands the importance of maintaining his high standards heading into his second season at the top level.
“It is important that I don’t get too content,” Mills told Big Sports Breakfast radio.
“I just want to keep learning and experiencing new things because as soon as you think you are going alright you can start to plateau and it can go the other way.
“I am all about working hard and hopefully having a better season because I can’t be content with last year if I want my career to keep going forward.”
Coach John Longmire confirmed Mills was a chance to play some time in the midfield during his second season of football, after spending his debut season down back.
“You have to learn on your feet and there is no chance to be content with anything because you just have to learn as much as you can if you want to improve,” Mills said.
“It was super exciting and it was an amazing year last year, but hopefully we can go one better.”
Mills is likely to join his younger teammates in Friday’s intra-club contest at Henson Park.
