The key tall, who has battled ongoing knee issues since he went down in last year’s semi final against Carlton, made his return in the Swans reserves NEAFL clash against the Gold Coast Suns reserves on Saturday afternoon at the SCG.
Tippett, who was the club’s leading goal scorer in 2013, booted three goals in a half of football, took six marks up forward and led strongly throughout his time on field.
Speaking to sydneyswans.com.au after his first hit for the year, Tippett said he felt positive about his performance and said his knee pulled up well.
“I felt really good and my knee feels strong,” Tippett said.
“It was my first time playing since September and I really enjoyed being out there with the younger boys.
“I felt really confident in my knee out there, and it feels really good now after the match.”
Tippett played the majority of the match deep inside forward 50, but ventured out on several occasions to apply defensive pressure and lay tackles.
The forward said his aim was to get the most out of his first hit out, and to test his body in match conditions.
“Today for me was about performing and getting my mind and body right,” he said.
“I had some simple focuses around playing my role and getting to the intensity needed.
“I feel like I’ve pulled up really well and I’m looking forward to next week.”
The 26-year-old was dominant up forward during his time on field and provided a strong target inside forward 50 alongside young forward Toby Nankervis and Tim Membrey.
Tippett said it felt good to be able to put a few goals on the board for the reserves, adding that he enjoyed acting as a mentor for the club’s younger players.
“It did feel good to get hold of the first grab and kicking a few goals felt really good and was really exciting,” he said.
“It was also great playing with Toby (Nankervis), big Patty Mitchell, Timmy Membrey and all of the boys we train with but don’t often get the chance to play with.
“It was great to be able to play with them and get out there and help those guys and see their development.”
Tippett said he felt proud to be able to assist the Swans reserves this weekend, who ran away with a comprehensive 100-point victory over the Suns reserves.
“I really enjoyed being out there,” he said.
“I think we started the game really well so that was pleasing.
“It was great to see the boys come away with a big win, and I’m glad I was a part of it.”
