The Sydney Swans are pleased to announce Jan Courtin as the winner of the ‘I Love My Sydney Swans’ competition.
Judges Shane Mumford, Kieren Jack, Ben McGlynn and Josh Kennedy selected Jan from a raft of entries from passionate Swans fans.
Jan’s entry, titled ‘My 62 year love affair with the Swans’ charts her lifelong passion for the Club, and the efforts she has gone to over the years to ‘Love her Swans'.
Jan attended her first Swans match at 5 years of age, at Lakeside Oval in 1948. In 1970 she flew back to Australia from London to see South Melbourne play in their first finals series of her lifetime.
From 1976-1996, Jan lived in Brisbane and commuted to many matches in both Melbourne and Sydney. In ’96 she drove from Brisbane to Melbourne to see the team take on North Melbourne in the Grand Final.
For loving her Swans, Jan will receive two tickets the Swans Hall of Fame Dinner on April 30 at the Bayside Grand Hall, Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. She will also receive two 2012 Gold Memberships and a signed Swans guernsey.
Shane Mumford, speaking on behalf of the Swans four special judges, said he was very impressed with Jan’s entry.
“What impressed us most, was the way she showed her whole journey as a Swans fan, from 1948 through to today,”
“There were lots of great entries and it was great to see that so many people love their Swans in so many interesting ways.”
Jan said she was shocked to have won the major prize. “I certainly didn’t enter thinking I could win, but I just wanted to share my story,”
“There are so many more things I could have shown, but I thought it was a good example of just how much I love the Club.”
