After two losses in a row we really wanted to make sure that there was not going to be a third against Melbourne. The team had an ‘international’ injection from Canada and Ireland with inclusions Mike Pyke and Tommy Walsh. Along with Trent Dennis-Lane these new additions helped for a good team win, something which we want to replicate for the rest of the season.

We had a recovery session at Maroubra Beach on Sunday after the win. It was a cold windy day, one of those days you wish we had opted to go to an indoor pool. It’s funny though, after a win the water almost feels a couple of degrees warmer, and after a loss it always feels colder.

Ben McGlynn was walking up to anyone who would listen and giving them a one-on-one description of his incredible goal in the last quarter. Can’t say for sure but I think I even saw him telling the life-guards at the beach at one stage too. However, credit where credit’s due, it was sensational and I really think he deserves ‘Goal of the Year’ for it.

Canteen Award

Pie and Coke this week goes to…Campbell Heath!

On the weekend it was Cambo’s turn to take the pre-game toss of the coin for the reserves game. Cambo lost the coin toss so the Eastlake captain chose his preferred goals to kick to. However, somewhere between where the toss took place and when he went back to tell the rest of the boys Cambo forgot which goals we were kicking to start the game!

‘Somewhat’ sure he directed the boys that we were kicking to one end, so everyone went out into what they assumed were their designated positions. Things were looking all fine until the two opposing ruckmen realised that they were both starting the centre bounce FROM THE SAME SIDE!

Our ruckmen on the day Mark Seaby could easily resolve his dilemma and walk the few metres to take his actual proper starting position for the game, but the proverbial quickly hit the fan as all defenders were now playing as forwards, and all forwards were now playing as defenders. The umpire bounced the ball and the game commenced, but most Swans guys had to get from one end of the ground to the other! Players were running everywhere! Due to the mayhem, the Eastlake players then got confused as they had no idea who they were playing on.

Despite the pandemonium the boys got it sorted quickly and had a great quarter kicking 6.4 to 0.3 and then continued on for a good win. With this in mind, could this then go down as one of the greatest tactical moves ever?

Song of the week

Making his debut this week I thought I’d ask Tommy Walsh if he’d like to pick this week's Song of the Week. Tommy chose;

Runaway’ by The Corrs

Quote of the week

“I don’t think I’ll be captain next week,” Campbell Heath
