The Sydney Swans showcased their skills off the field over the bye weekend, lending a hand at a number of local clubs across Sydney.

From Heffron Park to Mike Kenny Reserve, Swans players took on tasks such as assisting with coaching, umpiring and in the canteen at local grounds across the city.

A group of six Swans headed out to Drummoyne Power Junior Football Club on Saturday including Mike Pyke, Ben McGlynn, Marty Mattner, Alex Johnson, Alex Brown and Jarred Moore.

McGlynn and Pyke went head to head as assistant coaches, delivering pre-game speeches to the opposition teams and making tough interchange calls.

McGlynn’s team lost but considering he was coaching the ‘Cats’ he was happy to take it as a good omen for Friday night.

Mattner hosted a Q&A session with the kids, and targeted Johnson, Brown and Moore with some tough questions from the budding footballers.

Mattner also showed off his officiating skills, filling in as the goal umpire for the junior match.

At Heffron Park in Maroubra, Rhyce Shaw, Shane Mumford and Ryan O’Keefe took time out to assist with the launch of the NSW/ACT Volunteer and Coach of the Year awards.

The group also lent a hand as assistant coaches in the Maroubra Saints and Newtown Swans game and made some tough decisions from the interchange bench. It was Mumford’s Saints who were victorious over O’Keefe’s Newtown side.

At Gwawley Oval, Taren Point, Swans pair Matt Spangher and Josh Kennedy paired coaching and mentor roles at the women’s Aussie Rules clash between the Southern Power and Sydney University, while at Mike Kenny Reserve, Kieren Jack, Jackson Potter and Nathan Gordon put their skills to use in the canteen, on the BBQ and around the ground selling raffle tickets.
